Growlanser: Wayfarer Of Time
With Nintendo locking up Monster Hunter for the 3DS, numerous other developers rushed to plug the gaping hole on Vita. Soul Sacrifice Delta is easily the most ambitious of these clones, and it’s the brainchild of Mega Man creator Keiji Inafune. Delta is an enhanced update of Soul Sacrifice, rather than a proper sequel, and didn’t get a physical release in the west, although an expensive Asian English language version is available. Considering its capabilities, the Vita was decidedly short-served when it came to excellent first-person shooters.
God of War Collection
The eleventh main game in the series is titled Tales of Hearts and was originally released for the Nintendo DS. The smaller systems meant that developers didn’t need the huge budgets that were required of the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 to tell a great story. Instead, RPG and JRPG fans were getting fantastic games that catered to all kinds of niches in the genre in the palms of their hands.
There is quite a selection if you’re looking for classic PS2 visual novels. For starters, the first Utawarerumono game was released on Vita, complete with an English translation. Aside from the near-perfect performance, Sly Cooper games stand out in the sea of mascot platformers all thanks to their focus on stealth elements more than your basic beat-em-up and collect-a-thon gameplay. Writing is on point as well; with both heroes and villains always consistently deliver clever and light-hearted quips to brighten up the already fun adventure story, not unlike your typical Saturday morning cartoon characters. During its confessionals stages in the nightmares gameplay, players are gauged on the Freedom and Order scale for their responses to questions such as “Is it ok to live with your partner without ever intending to marry them? ” Vincent’s character progression as chosen by the player’s choices is also influenced by how he responds to none-playable characters during the day in the Stray Sheep bar, and how he responds to text messages.
A clever move on the developer’s part, as this provides endless re-playability. Clannad’s visual appeal is immediately apparent; the beautifully illustrated cast of characters and backgrounds are impressive. And the gameplay will engage even the most discerning of visual novel fans with its branching plot line and multiple endings. By now, you’ve likely seen Sony’s plan to close down the PlayStation 3 and Vita stores this Summer. We had our suspicions for some time — after last year’s redesigned PSN web store dropped both sets of games — and news officially came through earlier this month. You can still re-download games from your existing libraries, but for the PS Vita, you’ve got until 27th August to buy anything new. I want to be surprised, but the only thing that’s actually blocking any Vita apps running 100% natively is the difference firmware. @SwitchVogel You’re probably right, Persona will probably stay a PlayStation exclusive series . But you cannot play PS VITA game with Rear touchpad feature like Little Deviant or PS VITA game with AR Camera feature like Reality Fighters on Switch machine. @shgamer You joke, but watch this be the only way to play P4G on a Switch. @SwitchForce I swear, everytime there’s an article even mildly related to homebrewing (which this isn’t even), you whine about how bad homebrew is. Rudimentary now, but I’m really excited to see how this improves over time.
Persona Series
Find a way to read the memory stick in a PC with a memory card reader (I don’t know if you can backup your files from your PSP direclty to a computer…). The memory stick will have a folder structure like (GAMES, SAVEDATA, etc.) In the SAVEDATA directory you’ll find a bunch of subfolders for each of your games that had a saved data on this memory stick. Despite the addition of touch control, though, a lot of the contents are recycled from past games, so hardcore fans who are looking for more new stuff might be disappointed. However, newcomers to the series might still be going to fully enjoy all the goofy absurdity Touch My Katamari has to offer. Definitely worth a play since it is a one-of-a-kind gaming experience.
Few videogame superheroes express their available powers as well as the main protagonist of Japan Studio’s sensational action-adventure game. Kat has the power to manipulate gravity and while it takes a little while to master, you’ll soon feel invincible as you run along the sides of buildings, propel yourself at enemies and even master the power of flight. It creates a wonderful sense of freedom as you explore the breathtaking city of Hekseville and complete quests for its memorable NPCs while looking for the tucked-away gems that will expand Kat’s health and grant her new abilities. Not since Crackdown has the feeling of exploring presented so many rewards and it’s easy to lose focus from the main adventure as you explore Hekseville’s many nooks and crannies. While an enhanced version would make its way to PS4, we feel Media Molecule’s inventive platformer fares best on Vita. Like many early Vita games, Tearaway makes heavy use of the PS Vita’s features, but here they enhance the on-screen action and never feel like forced-in gimmicks.

Not the kind of slime from Dragon Quest, as that would be ultra no no copyright problems.
There’s a reason for the high demand though, it’s quite simply the best platformer you can play on Vita, and considering the competition that’s high praise indeed. Spelunky’s brutal difficulty will no doubt put many off, but if you stick with it you’ll find one of the most rewarding experiences around. While stages are procedurally generated, the enemies and traps that inhabit them obey certain laws and you’ll need to understand those in order to make progress. Just make sure to chain your Vita to your wrist as you may want to throw it at times.
Few will need reminding about Japan Studio’s Ape Escape, but the same can’t be said for some of its spin-offs. Having first appeared in 1999, we’ve not seen a new entry for nearly a decade, and during the PSP era, Ape Quest arrived with an RPG premise. Released on a physical UMD in Japan, North America and Europe only received the downloadable version. Set 100 years after the events of the original game, the newer installment revolves around a family that is cursed, preparing to fight against a demon.
